General Burning Permits
General Burning Permits are issued for properties over one acre in size. General Burning season for brush is from Oct. 1st through April 30th.
ALL GENERAL BURNING OF BRUSH MUST BE EXTINGUISHED BY DARK.
Campfire Permits
Campfire Permits are issued for property (outside of The Villiage of Oxford) under one acre in size or with lakefront open acreage and are valid year-round for recreational purposes. They are limited in size to 4 ft in diameter x 2 ft in height.
Enclosed Fireplace Permits
In the Village of Oxford, permits are issued for the use of an enclosed fireplace or chimney ONLY.
THERE IS NO GENERAL OR CAMPFIRE BURNING WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF OXFORD LIMITS PER VILLAGE ORDINANCE.
For Commercial/Industrial Property Burn Permits, please contact the Fire Chief.
Permits are valid until December 31st of each calendar year. Please contact the Fire Department for renewal instructions.
Failure to call could result in revocation of the permit, the issuance of a citation, and could incur a fee of up to $500 for fire department response.

Automated Burn Permit System:
Anyone wishing to burn will need to have a valid burn permit to use our automated system. All burn permits are linked to your address.
To renew an existing permit:
Please call the fire station between 10am and 2pm Monday – Friday at (248) 969-9483.
To obtain a new permit:
Please present your valid ID (with address) at the Fire Station at 96 N Washington, during office hours.
Once a permit is obtained:
The same burning rules apply, with regard to when, how, what, and where you may burn.

Each time you burn, please call (248) 628-3870 and follow the prompts.

Be prepared to hear a recorded message confirming your name and/or address (detected from the caller id of the phone number dialing in).

If you would like to burn simply press “1”.
For all other inquiries, please call the office line at (248) 969-9483 during regular office hours, Monday through Friday.
Burning Safely

The burning of leaves is prohibited at any time.

The burning of any material other than tree cuttings and brush is prohibited.

Do not use gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil, or any other flammable or combustible liquid to start your fire.

All fires must be tended by an adult. NO UNATTENDED BURNING ALLOWED.

You must provide adequate FIRE CONTROL measures.

Burning must be located at least 50 ft from any structure or lot line and must not be under any overhead wires.

You are responsible for any damage which your fire may cause.

NO BURNING IN WIND OVER 15 MPH. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUSPEND ALL BURNING DURING WINDY CONDITIONS.
